Road Trip Anthems, Part Cinq

Previous Road Trip Anthems, whether smoothed out aphrodisiac tracks or in-your-face energizers, have been unapologetically Pop in terms of genre. Now, we don't want our blog viewers to think we've gone all soft and mushy, so today's post is not the new Britney single. In fact, today's Road Trip Anthem (RTA, in our lingo) is far from the pop world and will almost certainly not appeal to all audiences. Indeed, the song is downright offensive, vulgar and ludicrous and I must urge those that venture to listen to it to treat the song as you would an R-rated movie: entertainment that is nor for the squeamish nor the youngins.

For Will and I, this song is what those in the hip-hop world would call a head-nodder. The beat, provided by anti-hero Kanye West, gets the neck working with its heavy bass line and soothing vocal sample. Cam'ron provides the lyrics, a combination of tough-guy bravado, braggadocio, clever wordplay and intricate rhyme schemes. The result is a hip-hop classic.

Again, I do not mean to suggest this stands with Marley, Hendrix, The Beatles, or Tchaikovsky in terms of musicality, but it definitely creates the type of feel-good vibe that makes one want to jump in the car, lower the windows, and turn up the sound.
