About Will and Clayton's Bogus Adventure

Will Rappaport, known in the music world as Goodwill, has decided to part ways with the Gran Manzana, the Big Apple, the marvelous New York. The balmy weather, beautiful women, and constant budget crises of California now beckon, as do the promising prospects of the Los Angeles music world that we all hope will one day bring Goodwill fame and fortune.

To reach LA, Will has packed up the Honda Odyssey (pka Moby Dick) bequeathed to him by his parents, recruited his most trusted confidant and cousin, Clayton, and set out via our illustrious nation's parkways, turnpikes, and interstates on a journey destined to be studied, picked apart and critiqued for generations to come.

With this blog, we will share our experience --the cities and towns we pass through, the foods and drinks we consume, the curiosities we stumble upon-- as well as photos, updates and a daily poem.

We hope you enjoy.

Chi-conquered

Chicago is now in the rear-view mirror and it was quite a 48-hour run.

The checklist reads something like this:
1. Sampling some of the city's best deep-dish pizza? Check.
2. Eating at a local greasy spoon? Check.
3. Bar-hopping and seeing the Chi-town nightlife? Check.
4. Sleeping in Moby Dick for a night? For Clayton, Check.
5. Finding Polish food and Chicago Dogs? Fail!

Well, we couldn't do it all. But there's only so much you can do in a quick trip through Chicago. The city is awesome and Will and I both agree we'll have to return again soon.

Before we left, we capped the visit off this morning with a trip to Pilsen, Chicago's Mexican neighborhood, for a farewell breakfast. We chose the well-reputed Nuevo Leon restaurant and found the place packed, always a good sign.

Before we had a chance to order, the wait staff had already brought us three different types of salsa, chips, jalapeƱos and pickled carrots, and a small sampling of beef stew with the obligatory corn tortilla.

I ordered barbacoa, a tasty beef roast that was delightfully tender and seasoned to perfection. Will had beef enchiladas, which heavily resembled those made in New Mexico, and they were equally scrumptious. I reminded Will that he would soon have the opportunity to try the same dish in New Mexico, so stay tuned for his assessment of which style was better.

  1. Why don't you guys start leaving your marks in places that you have been? Buy some blank stickers or name tags from Urban Outfitters and start leaving a tag, that can be removed of course, because I would never encourage defacing someone's property. Also, have you seen any strange people? You have been in some real Midwest debacles. Where are the toothless, overweight, Walmart shoppers? May want to consider hitting up some Walmarts for pictures to add some comic relief... Furthermore, trailer parks would add a certain entertainment value to the blog. Please expose the primitive nature of some subsequent locations.
