About Will and Clayton's Bogus Adventure

Will Rappaport, known in the music world as Goodwill, has decided to part ways with the Gran Manzana, the Big Apple, the marvelous New York. The balmy weather, beautiful women, and constant budget crises of California now beckon, as do the promising prospects of the Los Angeles music world that we all hope will one day bring Goodwill fame and fortune.

To reach LA, Will has packed up the Honda Odyssey (pka Moby Dick) bequeathed to him by his parents, recruited his most trusted confidant and cousin, Clayton, and set out via our illustrious nation's parkways, turnpikes, and interstates on a journey destined to be studied, picked apart and critiqued for generations to come.

With this blog, we will share our experience --the cities and towns we pass through, the foods and drinks we consume, the curiosities we stumble upon-- as well as photos, updates and a daily poem.

We hope you enjoy.

Fat Boy Heaven

As one might surmise from all the food postings, Will and I have packed on some pounds this trip. Today's trip in to downtown Tulsa only continued this trend, as we ended up in, of all places, Fat Guy's Burgers.

Will's high school friend, Alicia, met us here and informed us this would be her fourth visit in a week. Not bad.

I swiftly noticed that the only option for burgers was to order a double patty-- the place certainly adhered to its name.

Will and Alicia kept it pretty tame, ordering a bacon cheeseburger and a chipotle chicken, but the peanut butter bacon burger caught my eyes and I instantly opted for it. As we placed the order, the kind lady at the register informed me that I could have my burger Thai style, on top of the PB, and I quickly obliged.
The food was outstanding, but the real story was the hulking mass I chowed down. The burger DID have peanut butter, as well as pineapple, jalapenos, bacon and a Thai sauce. As we say around uptown in NYC, it was "crack." Another must have item for all who venture in to Tulsa.

After we'd finished, Will and I struck up a conversation with the owner, Chris, a Tulsa native who had spent a year in Park Slope, Brooklyn. He seemed a bit jaded by the experience, describing how the city leaves people broken with all the expenses, fines and other frustrations. Will and I conceded that we too had had our fill of NY (hence, why Will's LA bound), but we both felt that the city toughens people's skin, turns them into fighters, and puts them at an advantage in any other environment. In fact, the thriving restaurant Chris now operates in Tulsa seems to be a testament to that.

For Will and I, this is just a friendly reminder: The world is our oyster.

More Boulevard Wheat, we're hooked.

Peanut butter bacon burger, Thai style.

Chicken Chipotle.

Bacon cheeseburger

That's pineapple on the burger and the sauces are peanut butter and some Thai sauce.

Only two people have succeeded in the Fat Guy Challenge, which includes 5 pounds of meat and a one pound bun.
